Banarasi, in the Present Tense
A brand and storefront system for Stylish Naari — sarees woven on centuries-old looms, presented for the way they are worn now.
The Challenge
Heritage craft is usually sold with heritage design — and the design is what dates the product.
- Present Banarasi weaving to women buying for today, not for an archive
- Stop the interface competing with the textiles
- Give every future page one rule to resolve against
How We Built It
Quiet UI. Expressive textiles. One sentence, written first, that every later decision had to answer to.
- A ranked reference list — campaign photography first, then the real colours and craft of the sarees, then contemporary Indian fashion, then editorial ecommerce convention
- A tie-breaker, not a debate — when two rules conflict, the ranking settles it, so the hundredth product page is argued the same way as the first
- Guidelines that govern the build — the document is the source of truth for homepage, template and Shopify implementation decisions, not a deck filed after launch
- Restraint as a measurable — the interface carries structure and the sarees carry colour, so a page is wrong when the UI starts competing

The homepage the guidelines produced — structure from the interface, colour from the textile.
The Impact
The catalogue can grow without the design drifting. Every new page has a document to answer to, so the restraint survives contact with a hundred new products.
The Results
One source of truth, so the brand holds as the catalogue grows.
